Step 2a : Perform keyword research - The Dowser

I cannot emphasize enough that doing a proper keyword research can make or break your website. You need to know which keywords (or keyphrase) are being searched upon in the search engines.

Generally speaking, one or two-word searches are information seekers, while more than 3 words in the search phrase are people looking for specific information, possibly ready to buy.

When I first started using The Dowser, the user interface looks impressive. You can add root keywords, then let the software generate more keywords (vertical words, which contains the root keyword) from Overture, as well as similar keywords (lateral words). The software puts all these information in a easy to read tabular form, and you can even add or delete columns as you like.

The Dowser allows you to display the popularity searches (how many people searched for the terms), competitive results (no. of competitors in the search engines), KEI, no. of Googles Ads, no. of Overture Ads (along with the bid price), the top competing sites, the advertisements by your competitors for each keyword, and a whole lot more.
